Byabasheija Ethan is a nine-year-old boy who lives with his grandmother in Rwagaaju, Nyakinengo. He has significant physical and intellectual disabilities and needs help with feeding, bathing, communication, and movement. He cannot sit upright, stand, or walk without support. Ethan’s grandmother provides his daily care while managing severe financial hardship. The family often has to prioritize food and other essentials, leaving little money for adapted equipment, therapy, bedding, or hygiene supplies. The most immediate priorities are supportive seating or an adapted wheelchair, nutritious food, hygiene supplies, comfortable bedding, medical follow-up, and physiotherapy. Assistance for his grandmother would also make full-time care safer and more sustainable. AWL is sharing Ethan’s story so supporters can understand the practical support that would improve his comfort, health, and participation in family and community life.
